How much does a beauty salon cost in Antananarivo?

Cut, blow-dry, manicure, massage, Head Spa — the price ranges you can expect in Antananarivo, converted to euros, and what makes the bill move.

If you have just arrived in Madagascar, or moved here recently, salon prices are hard to anticipate. Rates are rarely published online, and the gap between a neighbourhood salon and a properly equipped venue is considerable.

Here are some concrete reference points.

Where these figures come from

These prices were recorded at one salon in Androhibe, in July 2026 — a mid-range venue with a permanent location, trained staff and professional equipment. This is not a national average, and a neighbourhood salon will charge considerably less.

Treat them as an order of magnitude for a venue where you will feel comfortable, not as a floor price.

Indicative conversion: €1 ≈ 4,900 Ar (July 2026). Actual amounts are always in ariary.

Hair

Treatment Price Equivalent
Men’s cut 15,000 – 35,000 Ar €3 – 7
Women’s cut & blow-dry from 30,000 Ar from €6
Women’s hair, full range 20,000 – 200,000 Ar €4 – 41
Colour & technical work from 100,000 Ar from €20

Colouring and straightening have no fixed price: they depend on hair length and the amount of product used. A quote is given on site before starting — ask for it, this is normal and expected.

Hair treatments

Treatment Price Equivalent
Hair treatments generally 75,000 – 400,000 Ar €15 – 82
Hair botox from 300,000 Ar from €61
Brazilian straightening from 400,000 Ar from €82

This is the most expensive category, and the one closest to European prices: the products are imported and cost the same everywhere.

Japanese Head Spa

Treatment Price Equivalent
Head Spa, 60 min 150,000 Ar €31
VIP Head Spa, 90 min from 230,000 Ar from €47

The Head Spa — a long scalp treatment with cranial massage and a warm-water rinse — has established itself in Antananarivo over the past few years. For comparison, the same treatment commonly costs €80 to €150 in Europe.

Nails and pedicure

Treatment Price Equivalent
Manicure + semi-permanent polish 45,000 Ar €9
Gel-X application (tips) 40,000 Ar €8
Refill 60,000 Ar €12
Classic spa pedicure 40,000 Ar €8
VIP spa pedicure 120,000 Ar €24

This is where the gap with Europe is most striking: a semi-permanent set at €9 against €35 to €50 in France, for equivalent work.

Massage and body treatments

Treatment Price Equivalent
Back massage, 30 min 30,000 Ar €6
Relaxing massage, 60 min 50,000 Ar €10
Slimming massage, 60 min 80,000 Ar €16
Body treatments 15,000 – 90,000 Ar €3 – 18

Facials and waxing

Treatment Price Equivalent
Facial 50,000 – 150,000 Ar €10 – 31
Waxing, depending on area 10,000 – 70,000 Ar €2 – 14
Make-up 40,000 – 120,000 Ar €8 – 24

Lashes and brows

Treatment Price Equivalent
Lash lift 350,000 Ar €71
Russian volume extensions 350,000 Ar €71

Lash work is the only category where Malagasy prices approach European ones. The reason is straightforward: the product is imported, and application takes two to three hours of skilled work.

What makes the bill move

  • Hair length. On colouring or straightening, this is the main factor. Have the price confirmed before work begins.
  • The neighbourhood. Androhibe, Ivandry and Ambatobe concentrate the best-equipped venues, and their rates reflect that.
  • The equipment. A salon that has invested in professional equipment charges more — and the result is not comparable.

How to pay

Bring cash. Card payment is uncommon in Madagascar: fewer than 4% of the population holds an active card, and most salons have no terminal.

Mobile money (MVola, Orange Money, Airtel Money), on the other hand, is accepted almost everywhere and used daily. If you are staying several weeks, it is the most practical payment method.
